The campaign team of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has accused the UK Labour Party of interfering in the U.S. elections. A complaint filed with the Federal Election Commission in Washington labels the actions as “blatant foreign interference.” This accusation arises from some British volunteers traveling to the U.S. to support Democratic candidate Kamala Harris’s campaign.
The complaint calls for an investigation into the alleged illegal contributions from members of the Labour Party, led by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, to Harris’s campaign. Historically, UK volunteers have participated in U.S. campaigns, with Labour members typically supporting Democrats and Conservatives backing Republicans.
Following Labour’s landslide victory in the UK’s July elections, several senior Labour advisors reportedly visited the U.S. to meet with Democratic strategists. However, Keir Starmer downplayed concerns about potential diplomatic fallout, emphasizing that the volunteers went on their own initiative.
Trump, who has ties with right-wing British figures like Nigel Farage and former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, previously praised Starmer during a September meeting at Trump Tower. Accusations of election interference are not new to the U.S., with past allegations against Russia, China, and Iran, which those nations have consistently denied.
