There may be domestic and foreign influences behind the ISKCON issue: Home Affairs Advisor

Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated that there might be domestic and foreign influences behind the ISKCON issue. He also mentioned that certain groups within the country, or those that have been banned, might be involved.

The Home Affairs Advisor noted that many false cases have been filed across the country. Measures are being taken to ensure that innocent people are not harassed in such cases. A committee comprising the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Superintendent of Police (SP), and Legal Aid Officers will be formed to address the issue. He urged the public to identify those filing false cases, and assured that legal action would also be taken against those involved in filing such cases.

Regarding the recent student movements, he said that a discussion was held earlier in the day with representatives of various colleges. “I believe it was a fruitful discussion. I think the issue will be resolved. Students are like our brothers, sons, daughters, and sisters. Being harsh with them won’t help. They are intelligent, and we need to reason with them. I believe they have understood the matter and will resolve it among themselves,” he said.

The Home Affairs Advisor also mentioned that weapons looted from various police stations have not been fully recovered yet. Efforts to retrieve those weapons are ongoing.

He highlighted the government’s initiatives to enhance community policing activities, stating that the program will first be strengthened in Dhaka and then gradually expanded across the country.
