The High Court has refused to issue an order to the government prohibiting the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON)’s activities, as the Attorney General’s office informed that relevant authorities have already taken necessary actions following recent gatherings and conflicts in Chattogram.
On Thursday, a High Court bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury expressed hope that the government should remain alert to maintain law and order and protect public safety.
Previously, Additional Attorney General Anik R Haq and Deputy Attorney General Md. Asaduddin informed the High Court bench that separate cases have been filed regarding the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif and ISKCON’s activities, with a total of 33 suspects arrested in these cases.
On Wednesday, Supreme Court lawyer Md. Monir Uddin presented reports from two newspapers about ISKCON’s activities in the bench. He prayed for an order to prohibit ISKCON’s activities to prevent any further unpleasant incidents and to declare an emergency in Chattogram and Rangpur.
