Italy’s Ambassador to Dhaka, Antonio Alessandro, has pledged support for the interim government’s police reform initiatives and committed to promoting safe and formal migration between Bangladesh and Italy. During a courtesy visit to Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus at his Tejgaon office in Dhaka, the ambassador discussed key areas of cooperation, including migration, economic ties, and police training.
The meeting followed a one-on-one discussion between Prof. Yunus and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the UN Headquarters in New York, where both leaders emphasized the need to curb irregular migration and expand formal migration channels. Ambassador Alessandro expressed Italy’s commitment to protecting Bangladeshi migrants and providing training to enhance Bangladesh’s police force.
In addition, the ambassador expressed optimism about a resurgence in bilateral trade, currently valued at $2.5 billion. He also announced plans for cultural events, including an Italian movie festival and ballet performance, to further strengthen ties between the two nations.
