The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has established a shadow committee in response to the interim government’s formation of six commissions aimed at institutional reforms, including constitutional changes. This shadow committee was finalized during the BNP’s standing committee meeting held on Tuesday night, and has been tasked with preparing reform proposals in the coming weeks.
According to party insiders, key BNP standing committee members—Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain, Nazrul Islam Khan, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Salahuddin Ahmed, and AZM Zahid Hossain—will lead separate reform initiatives. However, the specific leadership roles and committee members have yet to be officially confirmed.
The interim government has already formed six commissions, each focusing on crucial areas of reform: the electoral system, police, judiciary, public administration, constitution, and anti-corruption. Notable appointments include Badiul Alam Majumder as the head of the Electoral System Reform Commission, Safar Raj Hossain for the Police Reform Commission, and Justice Shah Abu Naeem Mominur Rahman leading the Judiciary Reform Commission. Professor Ali Riaz will oversee the Constitutional Reform Commission.
In his national address on September 11, Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus emphasized the need for comprehensive reforms to strengthen Bangladesh’s institutions, further enhancing the legal and governance frameworks of the country.
