The U.S. presidential election is just days away, and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump are intensifying their campaigns in Nevada. Both are presenting their visions for the future, but Trump’s plan stands out with a surprising element. If elected, Trump has expressed a desire to reshape the government by involving figures like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Elon Musk.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the son of former U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of President John F. Kennedy, initially entered the race as an independent candidate but withdrew in August to endorse Trump. Trump has proposed giving Kennedy Jr. significant authority over U.S. food and health safety policies, stating at a rally in New York’s Madison Square Garden, “I will give him the freedom to work on food and medicine.”
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has expressed a strong commitment to improving U.S. health standards, envisioning a healthier nation through eco-friendly agriculture and the protection of natural habitats. He aims to make American food, water, and air free from toxins but has not elaborated on specific strategies. Known for controversial statements, Kennedy Jr. has previously compared vaccines to practices in Nazi Germany and suggested that certain chemicals in water might influence children’s sexuality.
If elected, Trump has indicated plans to appoint Elon Musk to a prominent role, with a focus on reducing government size and spending. Musk has proposed leveraging artificial intelligence to cut $2 trillion in government costs, though former U.S. Treasury Secretary Larry Summers has criticized this as unrealistic, noting that only 15% of the federal budget goes toward salaries, making significant savings challenging.
Musk, a major Trump supporter, has contributed heavily to his campaign, which could benefit Musk’s companies, SpaceX and Tesla, both of which have substantial ties to government projects. In a recent speech in Pittsburgh, Musk hinted at a complete overhaul of federal bureaucracy, saying, “Let’s start from scratch.”
