The government of Pakistan has imposed Section 144 in the capital city, Islamabad, for the next two months. On November 24, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has called for a nationwide protest. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has termed this protest as the “final call.”
According to a report by Pakistan-based international news outlet Dawn on Monday, November 18, this announcement was made.
Imran Khan, the founder of PTI and former Prime Minister, announced the “final call” for a nationwide protest on November 24, stating that it is being organized against a “stolen mandate,” unjust arrests, and the 26th Amendment, which he referred to as “strengthening authoritarian rule.”
Imran Khan described this protest as a “trial by fire” for his party and supporters. He also urged active participation from the country’s legal fraternity, civil society, and overseas supporters.
Meanwhile, a notice issued by the office of Islamabad District Magistrate Usman Ashraf mentioned that certain groups are planning illegal gatherings, which could “disrupt peace and security.” Under this directive, gatherings of five or more people have been prohibited in the capital.
