With just two weeks left until the U.S. presidential election, the latest polls suggest that Democratic candidate Kamala Harris has pulled ahead of her Republican rival, Donald Trump. According to a survey conducted by Reuters and Ipsos, Harris holds a three-point lead over Trump.
In the survey, which concluded last Monday, 46% of registered voters indicated they would vote for Vice President Kamala Harris, while 43% supported former President Donald Trump. A previous survey by Reuters/Ipsos last week showed a similar trend, with Harris receiving support from 45% of voters compared to 42% for Trump.
The surveys also revealed voter dissatisfaction with the current state of the U.S. economy and immigration policies, areas where Trump’s stance tends to resonate more. About 70% of registered voters believe that the cost of living is on the wrong path, while 60% feel the economy is headed in the wrong direction. Regarding immigration policy, 65% of voters expressed dissatisfaction.
When asked about the most pressing issues facing the country, voters highlighted the economy, immigration, and threats to democracy as top concerns. Trump garnered more support on economic matters, with 46% of voters favoring his approach compared to 38% for Harris. On immigration, Trump also led with 48% support, while Harris had 35%.
However, voters appeared to have more trust in Kamala Harris when it comes to addressing political extremism and safeguarding democracy. The survey found that 42% of voters supported Harris in handling these issues, compared to 35% for Trump. Harris also maintained an edge over Trump on matters like reproductive rights and healthcare policy.
When asked which issues the next president should prioritize in their first 100 days, immigration was the top concern, with 35% of voters selecting it as their primary focus. Meanwhile, 11% pointed to income inequality, and 10% emphasized healthcare and tax policies as key priorities.
